Application SAM XT Tourniquet
Bleeding to death is one of the most common causes of death worldwide. In critical moments, especially with heavily bleeding wounds, every second counts. The SAM XT Tourniquet has been specially developed to stop bleeding quickly and reliably in such situations. Our simple step-by-step instructions show you how to use the SAM XT Tourniquet effectively. However, please note that a tourniquet should only be used in extreme emergencies and after appropriate training, as there is a risk of tissue damage if used incorrectly or for too long.
Step 1: Placement of the tourniquet
Identify the site of injury and place the tourniquet directly on the skin of the affected limb, approximately 5-7 cm above the wound.

Step 2: Fastening the belt
Guide the tip of the belt through the buckle opening. Pull the belt firmly and evenly until it is fully tensioned. If the retaining prongs do not grip, continue pulling until the belt is taut. Hold the tension and push the belt back on itself to secure it. Take care not to cover the Windlass C hooks.
Step 3: Stopping the bleeding
Rotate the Windlass rod until the bleeding has stopped completely.

Step 4: Fixing the Windlass rod
Insert the Windlass rod into the Windlass C-hook and check whether the bleeding has stopped. If the bleeding continues, tighten the tourniquet by turning the Windlass rod further. If this is not sufficient, place a second SAM® XT Tourniquet directly next to the first one and make sure that the bleeding stops.
Step 5: Completion and documentation
Wrap the strap between the Windlass C-hooks, over the bar and around the limb. Attach the time strap strip over the Windlass C hook and enter the application time.
